Based upon the NYPD SHIELD program, through its Counter Terrorism Command Victoria Police is the first police force in Australia to introduce a SHIELD initiative. The Victorian Police Minister, the Hon Lisa Neville, announced the government had agreed to adopt all 21 recommendations arising from the recent review of Victoria's Private Security Licensing Scheme.

Formally known as Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill 2020, and colloquially referred to as the SoCI Act 2.0, this pivotal legislation has now formally passed both houses of Parliament. It awaits Royal Assent before passing into law.
