Our second speaker for our International Women's Day Afternoon Tea is Joanna Simpson

Joanna (Jo) Simpson is currently the General Manager and Head of Technology at Certis Security Australia. In 2021, Certis Security Australia saw the need for technology to complement and enhance the operational aspects of front-line security. The business approached Jo to take up the role as Head of Technology in Australia to drive this transformation locally, and to assist customers to understand the process we call OpsTech. Analytics, Licence Plate Recognition, Cloud-based Visitor/Contractor Management and Control Room Optimisation are what keeps Jo and her national team busy every day, and she loves every minute of it!

Before joining Certis Security Australia, Jo began her career operating within the fire & electronic security industry in Australia and globally for over 25 years. She holds an MBA and is qualified in Security & Risk, holding a security licence in security consultancy.

Jo’s move from the fire to the security sector began in the system design area at Tyco, where she learnt how to assess and mitigate risk through the utilisation of technology. Jo assisted in the curation of many system designs including global companies attempting to open multiple offices and data centres in Australia. Jo teamed up with her global network and partners to design and manage the integration of security operational rooms into companies worldwide.

Jo moved into security and IT product distribution as Head of Security and Surveillance Product Practice at one of Australia’s leading ASX product distributors at that time, Hills Limited. This role expanded her understanding of product strategy and lead-time planning. 

Jo found her passion for utilising newer and smarter technologies to solve serious problems in commercial properties, homes, and communities. She is particularly interested in the power of integration and data and how it can be shared between public and private sectors for operational efficiency.
