Family Violence – We Must Act
Family violence continues to directly affect one in four Victorian women and is the leading contributor to preventable death, disability and illness for women aged 15 to 44 years. Family violence is deplorable and often involves violent, threatening, coercive or controlling behaviours.
Family violence is predominantly, but not exclusively, committed by men against women and children. It is time our community took a clear stance and on detection of violent behaviour reporting it to the police.
The Victoria Police have released a Code of Practice for the investigation of family violence. It is available at http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=43360
