Are We More Violent as a Society?

The Victorian crime data for 2019-2020 found there were 74,189 offenders prosecuted, a decrease of two per cent from the previous year. However, about 23% of perpetrators (17,171) were processed for violence and acts intended to cause injury.

Illicit drug offences increased about 6% with over three-quarters being male at an average age of 30 years.

Those responsible for assessing risk should remain aware of crime data, especially risks for OVA and public-facing staff which continue prominent in work-related incidents.
