Psychosocial hazards - Managing an emerging trend - 25 October 2022

Join us for our October 25th ASIS Breakfast!

Associate Professor Andrew Carroll (Forensic Psychiatrist) and Brett Bridges (Mental Health Nurse at Forensicare) are experts in their fields and provide specialist services to government, the courts and multinationals. The recent High Court case (Kozarov v State of Victoria 2022 HCA 12) considered cumulative exposure to vicarious trauma and responsibilities of the employer. This presentation opens up the argument that risk assessors, managers and those responsible for workplace safety need to consider OVA and its consequences in context of this case, not just the standard approach.

The topics to be presented will be:

  1. Overview of Kozarov;
  2. Psychobiology in context of vicarious trauma;
  3. Psychodynamics (working in the field);
  4. Tensions between resource allocation/reduction and proactive practices; and
  5. Solutions - minimum standards, self-management and organisational/operational strategies

Please register (RSVP) ASAP as places are limited.
