Youth Crime - Statistics That Identify Risk

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) regularly reports on crime trends to provide a greater understanding of risk. In its latest report the AIC identifies our youth as our greatest risk for offending criminal behaviours.

Did you know:

  1. Youth aged 17-18 years are at their potential criminal peak;
  2. The offending rate for youth between 15-19 years was three times higher than all other offender ages;
  3. Individuals aged 10-19 years represent 25% of all offenders despite representing 14% of the population; and
  4. Theft, violence and illicit drugs are the most common crimes committed by our youth.

The AIC website provides a great resource for security leaders to understand crime in the context of risk management.
