Training Submission by ASIS Vic Chapter

Pre-licensing and further training submissions for the industry closed today. Your Chapter has raised concerns about the length of training and impact it will have on future candidates for security. Below is a succinct overview of the submission.

• The ASIS Victoria Australia Chapter provided a submission and in general terms supported the submission by ASIAL;
• The Chapter expressed concern about proposed hours of the new Certificate II in Security Operations course of 600 hours (currently the course is 182 hours or 17 days in Victoria);
• Our analysis of the Units of Competency resulted in our view that 15 units = 130 hours and should be a "Statement of Attainment" rather than an AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) qualification;
• The "Statement of Attainment" could then be known across Australia as a Course for Licensing Purposes (SG/CC).
• The Course for Licensing Purposes (SG/CC) could pathway into an AQF qualification whether at Cert II, III or IV.
• We also explained our members feel extended hours will result in industry recruitment shortfalls based upon commitment to lengthy training (with incomes that are not consistent with training), prohibit entry of many potential entrants based upon cost (other than those who might qualify for Govt funding) and impact upon local delivery of training, especially in rural/regional areas.
